Classical Fine Art/Portraits/Photography
Trained in the traditional styles of Classical Realism and the Old Masters Jana Stiles has produced award-winning portraits and fine art.
As a Classical Realist painter she works with high quality oil paint on linen or panel and pastel on museum grade grounds. The Old Master style of painting is evident in JL Stiles’ work, in her still life artwork, portraits, and figurative drawings.
Formal Training
Her formal four-year training is in the classical tradition of the Boston School Painters of the 19th and 20th centuries studying with Paul C. Ingbretson, a present-day master of Classical Realism, who was a student of R.H. Ives Gammell who studied with Edmund Tarbell and the teaching lineage that continued with William Paxton, Frank Benson, Joseph DeCamp, the Hale’s, Jean Leon Gerome, and eventually back to the 18th Century French master Jacques Louis David. Prior to this training she studied with Rockport artist Phil Perkins and various university professors. Beginning at an early age Jana has pursued painting and drawing throughout her life.
Classical Realism
This traditional study is combined with study of the Impressionists in seeing, drawing, and painting truth and beauty as seen in nature. Classical Realism was originally practiced by the Old Master painters, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrant and other such famous artists.
